I liked today's opinion piece in The Hindu
One year down the line , I cannot suppress a smile when I think about certain 'Loh Purush'es and 'Vikas Purush'-es withering without an anchor to drop. All gifts - of the gab, of Apollo, of iron fists, of tridents, of saffron - seem to have magically deserted just when they need them the most.
Well, it is not for lack of trying you see... They did attempt something spirited, in terms of parliamentary boycott over the last two sessions, but scandal after scandal after scandal demanded that they be present to at least offer some muted protests... You would certainly need a lot of faith in the Indian Constitution to believe that the NDA (or whatever remains of it) is in the Opposition.
And of course when I think about certain mosquitoes that went into certain mouths which seem to be frozen agape in time - my smirk gets wider :)

Manmohan is more or less following the footsteps of his guru 'P V N Rao' when it comes to decision making! Quite smart move, but being detached is also quite risky for his party and worse for the country as well - 'remember babri masjid or mumbai blasts or mumbai riots'
Congress has lots of experienced leaders who know how to provide stability to the country(you can also read the same as 'how to cling to power - no matter what!').

Spot on about the sorry state of affairs within a defunct opposition.
From the article:
Unable or unwilling to come to terms with the electorate's rejection, the BJP leaders devised a new fiction: Ms. Gandhi remains the super Prime Minister, while Dr. Singh is only the mukhota
The problem with opinion pieces is that they are opinions. Places from where unsubstantiated assertions are taken as gospel elsewhere. The above section in the piece is in contradiction with the statements made by the author himself in previous paragraphs, where everyone seems reconciled to the mukhota factor. And suddenly, everyone is scrambling to devise this piece of fiction. The real credit for this weak prime minister theory should ideally be distributed across the board, right from the insinuating news anchor on that fateful day outside Jampath.
Sure, Manmohan is coasting along and possibly making India shine for real this time. But this political editor seems to imply that this 'devolution' of the prime minister's powers is rather acceptable and that there is no alternative anyways. I would not, however, be surprised if the same person goes on to castigate this weak string puppet prime minister for not seizing political/economic initiative within and outside the country by citing domestic 'constraints'. I just hope that Manmohan Singh turns out to be a shrewder person than that other 'weak' PM, I K Gujral. JMHO.
YEAH!
:)
Man! I resonate these feelings. Dr.Singh, seriously, can author a lot of changes in the way Indian Polity functions. I look upon him as a firm counter to the Laloo-Modi image of Indian politics. I've never been a Cong supporter, but a couple of terms with this man and they'd have my vote.
